Interaction of the systems

with high-precision map material using suitable positioning technologies

One of the project objectives is exact positioning using a high-precision map and the on-board sensors available in the test vehicles.

A high-precision map in OpenDrive 1.4 and Road2Simulation 1.2 formats will be provided for the test field. These are formats which are oriented towards the requirements of automatic driving by precisely describing important characteristics and landmarks. They are available in mathematically evaluable formats.

Especially in areas where, due to external circumstances (e.g. shading), the GPS position determination of vehicles is not of high accuracy, a more precise determination of the ego position of the vehicles can be achieved by using the on-board sensors and the digital map.

Interaction of driver assistance functions

in real driving situations

A wide range of driver assistance functions are available as standard for vehicles. The research project KoMoD will investigate to what extent the existing systems, additional assistance functions such as an intersection assistant and the provision of information from the infrastructure side can be used to implement automated driving functions and to what extent there are conflicts of objectives in the control system.

Testing of data provision and comparison of communication

Mobile communication vs. short range communication

Two competing technologies are available for data provision and communication: mobile communication and short range communication. Both technologies are used and tested in the research project. It will be investigated for which application and under which conditions each technology has advantages over the other and under which conditions the redundant use of both technologies is recommended.

Analysis of the linkage of on-board autonomous technology and information provision

through infrastructure

The test vehicles collect a multitude of data using the existing on-board sensors. In the Düsseldorf test field, additional information from the infrastructure is made available to the vehicles. The aim of the project is to examine the extent to which the collected and provided data is linked on the vehicle side and how to proceed in case of inconsistencies.
